How is the Pawning Process?

Valuables are assessed according to weight/condition/market value.

Customers present their ID/passport/driver’s license/work permit OR any card issued by an authorised party.

Customers will be issued a pawn ticket and will receive the loan amount.

Pawn tickets can be renewed or redeemed at the end of 6 months.

Your valuables are assessed by a trained valuer and a pawn amount will be given based on current market rates. Present your ID once the pawn amount is agreed upon (pawners must be at least 18 years of age or older). Thereafter, our data operator will record your details and a pawn ticket will be issued. Pawners are required to check if details on pawn ticket are correct.

All individuals over the age of 18 and possess a valid ID.

How much you can pawn your valuables for depends on the market value of your items at the time of pawning. For gold, we usually follow the international gold price in order to determine your pawn price and prices usually vary daily so do check with your pawnbroker on the latest gold price. For other valuables like branded watches and luxury bags, the market price for these items do not fluctuate as much as gold. Certain models under some brands might command more premium pawn prices than others. For example, a Rolex Submariner will have a better pawn value than a Rolex Lady Datejust. Another way to get a higher pawn price is by presenting the full set of the item including its box, warranty card and receipt (if any). This apply to bags and luxury watches. We do not need require these things for gold.

Under the law, all licensed pawnshops are not allowed to charge anything more than 2% per month. If you are being charged more than 2%, check immediately if the pawnshop is a licensed pawnshop. The interest only has to be paid when you are back to renew/ redeem your valuables. Please refer to What is the difference between a licensed and unlicensed pawnshop? for more information.

Yes, you can renew your pawn ticket anytime within 6 months. A renewal means that you pay the outstanding interest on your existing pawn amount and a new pawn ticket will be issued which grants you another 6 months validity. There are no restrictions on the number of times you renew your pawn ticket. You can renew as many times as you want.

You may redeem your valuables at any time within the 6 months’ time frame. Unlike renewing your pawn where you pay just the interest, to redeem, you are to pay the interest + principal.

Assuming your pawn amount is RM1000, when you redeem your valuables at the end of 6 months, the interest payable is RM90 based on the calculation RM1000 x 1.5% x 6 months = RM90.

Therefore the amount payable is RM1090.

Generally, all licensed pawnshops in Malaysia allow their customers to pawn for a maximum of 6 months. However, some pawnshops offer grace periods on top of the 6 months. For our pawnshops, we offer an extra 3-month grace period before we send your valuables for auctioning. It is always best to check with your pawnshop if you are unsure.

If you lose your pawn ticket for the first time, we can issue a new one for RM 0.50. However, if you lose it the second time, you have to lodge a police report for security purposes. Thus, it is very important to place your pawn ticket in a safe place.
